Essay 3: Three branches of America's federal government
As you all know, Sujuland is autocratic monarchy, however, Queen Jihee Park decided to make three branches for sujuland's goverment. There are some differences but the way it works is very similar. The idea of having three branches for Sujuland's government came from the United States of America.
America has three branches for its federal government. Those branches are; Legislative, Executive, and Judicial Branch.(1) Each branch has different function to it. Let's look at each branch with more details and facts about its branch.
Legislative Branch: This branch is separated into two parts; Senate and the House of Representatives. This branch makes the laws in federal goverment. (2) There has to be a good relationship between the House and Senate. Also, there has to be good relationship between Legislative branch with two other branches. Let's look at Florida for an example, Gov. Jeb Bush and the Florida Legislature is threatening a deal between the House and Senate that would increase oversight of state contracts in light of a string of recent controversies.(4) It shows that they have to agree with everything to make a good federal government.
Executive Branch:
Executive Office of the President:(3)
-The President
-The Vice President
-The White House Home Page
-Offices within the Executive Office of the President
-The President's Cabinet
The executive branch makes sure laws of the United States are obeyed (5). In another word, it enforces the laws in the United States. For America, the president is the head of executive branch just like Sujuland. Since the executive branch is large in America, the president gets help from vice president, who is also the part of executive branch.
It is necessary for executive branch to keep a good relationship with legislative branch, if not it can cause a lot of troubles in federal government and its nation. For example, in america, there are a lot o conflicts between the president and the legislative branch.
"That is the coldly comforting phrase used by people who can't wait until our destructive, intellectually limited president has permanently gone fishing. But the changes that George W. Bush has made to our nation's constitutional firmament may not depart with the first family's bags. His disregard for the separation of powers has so dramatically distorted the office of the president that he may have engineered a turning point in American history."(6)
Judiciaal Branch:This branch interprets the laws in the United States.
"The judicial branch oversees the court system of the U.S. Through court cases, the judicial branch explains the meaning of the Constitution and laws passed by Congress. The Supreme Court is the head of the judicial branch. Unlike a criminal court, the Supreme Court rules whether something is constitutional or unconstitutional—whether or not it is permitted under the Constitution."(7) So, this branch needs court cases to be able to interprets the laws and apply those laws to those court cases.
There are nine judges in judicial branch in America, unlike America's judicial branch, Sujuland has 13 judges, and they are 13 members of Super Junior. They gather and discuss the laws every month in Sujuland, the capital city of Sujuland. In America, the judges are nominated by the president and appoved by Senate, but in Sujuland, the judges are both nominated and approved by Queen Jihee Park. There can be a lot of problems between the executive branch and two other branches. Let's look at Florida for an exmaple again, "The appeals court rejected an argument that Schiavo was denied due process at a trial in 2000. Pinellas-Pasco Circuit Judge George Greer ruled Schiavo would not want to live by artificial means."(8) It talks about Judge George Greer and the arguement by Schiavo in St. Petersburg.
To avoid problems like one branch having too much power, America created Checks and Balances. By having checks and balances, it can help to limit the powers.(9) Just like America's checks and balances, Sujuland has checks and balances.
